Don’t be confused, this is not a race car from the car company Proton, but a stunning Formula 2 Race Car from 1969.
We are unsure how many chassis were made but this is chassis 1!!
OUR CAR
Originally built in Sydney by Erol Richardson for Peter Cohen in 1969. Peter raced the car at Warwick Farm, Bathurst, and Oran Park with mix success.
The car was then sold to John Torr and then onto Paul Hamilton. This was Paul first open wheeler and he raced it extensively in NSW and Victoria.
Eventually the car was sold to Russ Baldwin who completed an extensive restoration including rebuilding the twin cam Lotus Ford engine and the body. Russ raced the car at Amaroo Park, Winton and Lakeside. Unfortunately, at Lakeside he had a nasty accident and broke both of his legs.
The current owner, Dale Harvey purchased the wreck in September 1991 and has owned it since then.
Dale’s restoration work is a credit to him, have completely restored the car including rebuilding the chassis with the help of the original drawings.
The engine has been freshly rebuilt, waiting to be run in. The gearbox has a new Quaife torque biasing diff, new crown wheel and pinion and new dog rigs.
The car comes with a purpose-built enclosed trailer, a mobile work stand, the original wheels, a tool set and an assortment of spare parts, including oils, wheel alignment jogs and fuel treatment products.
The car has not been driven since the engine rebuild so it will need some running in.
The car has a Motorsport Australia COD.
This car will be a superb car to race in Historic Race events.
